The Town of Lake San Marcos-
Lake San Marcos is a neat and tidy town of approximately 4400 residents of all ages. It is a favorite place for retirees however with a median resident age of 63.3 years. Its main attractions are its village-like ambience, beautiful lake and the amenities of a year-around resort. These amenities include two golf courses, several community swimming pools, spas, tennis courts and several club-houses. The community also offers many activities for residents. For more details, please see Lake San Marcos Clubs and Organizations and  Lake San Marcos Recreation Facilities.
Its small village has the 140 room Lakehouse Hotel and Resort, The Grill and Decoy Dockside Dining  restaurants and a few other businesses.

Beautiful and Serene Lake San Marcos- Surrounded by homes and populated by fish, ducks, geese and graceful swans.

Lake San Marcos' mild climate, combined with its resort-like ambience, provide many opportunities to engage in outdoor activities throughout the year. In addition to the huge selection of on-site activities, many other nearby Cultural and Recreational Activities offer additional opportunities to live a healthy, interesting and event-filled lifestyle throughout your active retirement years.

Lake San Marcos has a unique variety of homes consisting of newer, up-scale and older condominiums and single-story; twin and detached homes. All of its communities are available to people of all ages except Chateau Lake San Marcos, an Age 55+ Independent Living Condominium Community. Most of Lake San Marcos' attached and detached homes are single-story designs which makes them especially popular with seniors. Many homes have great views; some border the lake or one of its 2 golf courses and others are on hillside lots that offer breathtaking, panoramic views of the area.

Lake San Marcos' location, approximately 8 miles from the Pacific coast, allows a combination of inland sunshine and coastal breezes to produce one of the best year-round Climates in the U.S. The sun shines more than 70% of the time possible in Lake San Marcos and the average summer highs are in the high 70's to low 80's (°F). The average winter daytime temperatures are in the 60's (°F) and winter night time lows in the 40's (°F). To learn more, please visit: San Marcos Neighborhood Guide: Lake San Marcos.

Its Great Location-

The town of Lake San Marcos is located in the city of San Marcos (please see a MAP of the area). Just outside the village, you will find the growing, vibrant city of San Marcos with a Crime Rate well below the U.S. average. Lake San Marcos by the way, enhances this safe environment with its own 24-hour security service. As previously stated, Lake San Marcos is only approximately 8 miles inland from the Pacific coast, far enough away to escape much of the coastal fog and morning overcast, but close enough for the gentle ocean breezes to affect its air temperature all year long. Its moderate temperatures, low afternoon relative humidity and low yearly rainfall combine to give Lake San Marcos a near-perfect year around Climate. Minutes away, you will find many stores containing life’s necessities and a wide choice of fine, moderately priced restaurants (more than 85 restaurants within 4 miles). Minutes away, you will also find a large movie theater, the newer Creekside Market Place and Grand Plaza shopping centers, a wide choice of places to worship, Palomar Community College and Cal State University @ San Marcos. A Kaiser Permanente  Outpatient Medical Center is located approximately 3 miles away. The Palomar Medical Center is located 7 miles away and the Tri-City Medical  center is located approximately 10 miles away. Carlsbad's McClellan-Palomar Airport that provides Air Taxi and Charter Services to most of the world is less than 5 miles away. Highway 78 (approximately 3 miles) provides easy access to North San Diego County's other cities, to its 19 public beaches, to San Diego (approximately 38 miles away), and to the rest of California. This great location also makes Lake San Marcos a convenient home base for traveling to a World of Things to Do.

Lake San Marcos is an approximate 8-mile drive from Historical Highway 101 with its scenic drive, public beaches, surfers, dolphins, beautiful sunsets & beachfront restaurants.

Things to Do-

In many of the communities, the home owners' fees (HOF) pay for access to many of the Lake San Marcos Resort amenities that include 2 swimming pools and an outdoor spa, 4 tennis courts, 3 paddle tennis courts, a recreation lodge with club and billiards rooms, boating and fishing privileges and loads of social clubs.
Lake San Marcos also boasts 2 golf courses. The St Mark Golf Club is a beautiful par 71 course. The other course is the par 58 Executive Golf Course. The resort also offers a 20-station driving range, a chipping and putting area, a pro shop and golf instructions.
In addition to the social, mental and physical activities available in the community, the surrounding area offers a multitude of Things to Do. If you like to dine out, the Old California Restaurant Row  with its 15 fine, moderately priced restaurants is less than 3 miles away with Edwards Cinema, with 18 theaters, right next door. In addition, the excellent San Marcos Senior Center that offers hundreds of senior activities is located less than 4 miles away and beach; jogging or walking, surfing, swimming, and fishing activities are less than 9 miles away at the Carlsbad City Beach.
San Marcos has a large variety of local shopping opportunities; in addition to its modern Grand Plaza and Creekside Market Place shopping centers it has local Costco, Wal-Mart, and Fry's Electronics stores, plus a huge selection of additional stores that supply most of life's necessities. Being centrally located, it is also close to other excellent North County Shopping centers.

San Marcos, is pegged as  "The Educational Heart of North San Diego County" for being  the home of both Palomar Community College and  Cal State University @ San Marcos.
Because Lake San Marcos is close to beaches, the Carlsbad Flower Fields, Lego Land Theme park, Escondido's San Diego Wild Animal park and San Diego, it is a great place to play and to Entertain Guests and Grand Children.
In short, Lake San Marcos, surrounded by North San Diego County's coastal and inland beauty, is a wonderful place for retirees to live; it offers a great year around climate, a rich cultural life and plentiful outdoor activities.

A Great Place to Entertain Guests- Lake San Marcos is located only 38 miles from San Diego, one of California's most popular tourist destinations. Only 30 miles away is beautiful Mission Bay where you and your guests can visit the SeaWorld Adventure Park, take a dinner cruise on the Bahia Belle Sternwheeler, play at the Belmont Beachfront Amusement Park or just spend the day picnicking and playing in the sand at one of its beautiful beaches.

The St. Mark Golf Club is a par 71 course.  Lake San Marcos also has a challenging, par 58 Executive public golf course.
