Oceanside Marina	Enjoy the Beautiful Pacific Coast North San Diego County has 26 miles of beautiful coastline, 21 Accessible Beaches and an Oceanside Marina and Community Pier. They offer many activities including opportunities for sailing, motor boating, fishing, ocean swimming, surfing, sunbathing, coastal hiking and beachside camping. If you prefer less strenuous activities, you might try dining at a beachside cafe (such as Ruby's Diner at the end of the Oceanside Pier), picnicking on the sand or just walking the beach and enjoying the fascinating sights of beach activities-  surfers, interesting people, fishermen, seabirds, dolphins, boats and beautiful sunsets. Or you may prefer to just sit and experience the mesmerizing sight and sound of waves hitting the shore.
Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos	Adventures in Dining Out North San Diego County has many Fine Restaurants (totaling more than 1500 in number), that offer nearly every type of cuisine imaginable, most at reasonable prices. Some also offer romantic sidewalk, beachside or ocean view settings. One favorite location, with 14 restaurants that offer a variety of fine food at reasonable prices, is the Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos.
San Marcos' Grand Plaza Mall	Shop North San Diego county has the large  enclosed Westfield Shopping Center in Escondido, the enclosed The Shoppes at Carlsbad mall, the 90 store Carlsbad Premium Outlets shopping center, several other high quality, medium to large sized shopping centers and hundreds of specialty, gift and antique stores. Additionally, North County has 4 Costco and 7 Wal-Mart stores, more than 16 Hardware/Lumber Building Centers, a San Marcos Furniture Row and nearly every other type of retail store imaginable. For grocery shopping, North County has more than 50 convenient supermarkets plus five Trader Joes' Neighborhood Grocery Stores, eight Sprouts Markets that offer more farm-fresh foods, and more than 100 other specialty food markets. In addition, our cities sponsor 13 Certified Farmer's Markets on various days of the week.
Escondido's California Center for the Arts	Enjoy Arts and Entertainment Local entertainment opportunities seem to be nearly endless. They include more than 150 nearby Live Theatres. Some of North County's favorites include the excellent Escondido's  Center for the Arts, Vista's Moonlight Stage Productions and Escondido's Welk Resorts Theatre. Additional entertainment selections include: 118 movie screens, animal shows at San Diego Zoo's San Diego Safari Park in Escondido, Casino Show's in Valley Center and Summer Concerts in various city parks. Del Mar's Hot-air Balloon Rides are fun for all ages. The excellent San Diego County Fair and  hundreds of additional activities throughout the year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and many nearby Theme Parks. Nearby San Diego, in addition to its many live theaters, has the excellent San Diego Opera, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and the San Diego City Ballet Company.  The world famous San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park where you can also visit 16 museums and many other attractions. You may also wish to plan to attend the huge biannual  Carlsbad Village Faire in Carlsbad. It is the largest street fair in the US.  Oceanside, San Marcos, Escondido and Fallbrook also have their own street fairs that are fun to attend.
Year-round Golf at Your Choice of 30+ Nearby Courses	Sports Participatory Sports: North San Diego County offers a choice of 30+ Nearby Golf Courses. It also offers a variety of fishing choices- Deep Sea, surf, lagoon, pier and fresh water (If you really love to fish, you may wish to join the Oceanside Senior Anglers or the Escondido Senior Anglers). Other sports include Ice Skating, Senior Softball  and other senior sports such as Pickleball, tennis and bowling.
Our cities also provide more than 100 of miles of hiking trails. Many of our roads have bike lanes and the city of Carlsbad sponsors Marathons throughout the year and the yearly Carlsbad 5000 Meter Run (the world's fastest 5K). Petco Park Where the Padre's Play	Spectator Sports: Some nearby spectator sports include San Diego's MLB Padres Baseball and  L.A. Chargers Football games, the famous Del Mar Thoroughbred Races at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and NASCAR auto racing at the Auto Club Speedway (about 1 hour 15 minutes away in Fontana).
Del Mar Thoroughbred Races	Off Track Racing & Casino Gambling The famous Del Mar races run every year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with Para-mutual betting all year long. Four Indian Gambling Casinos located near Valley Center offer gambling, fine dining and excellent shows.
San Marcos Senior Center	Senior Centers Offer Hundreds of Senior Activities: Nearly every city and town in North San Diego County has its own Senior Center and most of them are open to senior citizens living anywhere in North San Diego County. Las Brisas Pacificas Senior Community's Club House and Social Center	Age 55+ Active Adult Communities Senior Activities at Your Door Step Most of our 76 Active Adult Communities have a Community Center with a club house and swimming pool and most have many planned social, recreation and sports activities. Keep in mind however that, with our moderate year-around climate and huge selection of nearby activities, you may not have as much of a need to escape to a Community Center to find something to do.

Palomar College	Take Advantage of Life-Long Learning Opportunities Unlike some other parts of the U.S., our community colleges welcome senior citizens. Some free courses are offered to Seniors and many additional fee-based courses   are available. Courses on: Self-Improvement, Arts & Crafts, Fitness and Health and College-level Academic courses are offered at Mira Costa (Mira Costa offers low-cost LEARNING IS FOR EVERYONE (LIFE) courses that are organized for the seniors) and Palomar Community colleges and at many of the Senior Centers. Cal State, San Marcos University is "a new kind of CSU- fully engaged in our community, technologically sophisticated, and dedicated to teaching future generations through a relevant curriculum with a global perspective".
Work and Volunteer Opportunities San Diego County has many high-tech companies, with more than 200 in the telecommunications industry alone. San Diego-Carlsbad was rated #19 in Milken Institute's TOP 25 BEST-PERFORMING LARGE CITIES.  Carlsbad is home to a wide variety of manufacturers including dozens of Action Sports Companies. Nearby Sorrento Valley was recently named "Telecom Valley" and nearby LaJolla has been declared the "Epicenter for the region's biotech industry." These and other high-tech companies along with a vibrant tourist industry are engines for a growing and robust economy that generates many full and part-time jobs as well as many opportunities for meaningful volunteer work.
