The Oaks North senior community was built between 1976 and 1987. It is a beautifully landscaped community of 1963 well-kept, red-tile roofed homes of a variety of styles and sizes. One neighborhood named Chapala, has a guarded entry gate. Gated communities however may not be very important in Rancho Bernardo where they enjoy one of the lowest Crime Rates in Southern California.

Its location, only approximately 12 miles as the crow flies, from the Pacific coast, provides it with a moderate Climate. Average August highs are in the high 80’s (°F) and January lows in the low 40's (°F). With an average annual rainfall approximately 9.6 inches, the summer afternoon humidity is usually low and the sun shines more than 320 days per year.

The I-15 inland corridor (less than 2 miles away), provides easy access to the other North County cities, to beautiful downtown San Diego (less than 26 miles away), to the coast (an approximate 19 mile drive via Highway 56), and to the rest of California.

The Home Owners Association maintains the exterior of the condominium and attached homes, including their tile roofs and stucco siding, and also maintains the surrounding grounds. The individual home owners are responsible for maintaining the detached homes under the guidance of strict CC&R's. As a consequence, all homes and the surrounding grounds are very well-maintained.

The Oaks North community contains various sizes and styles of single-floor condominium homes in 2 story buildings. These 1 and 2 bedroom units range in size from approximately 831 to 1445 sq. ft. Some units have elevators to the second floor, others have stairs. Some of the ground floor units have no steps to the front door. The second floor units have balconies and the first floor units have patios. They also have a large variety of interiors- Some have fireplaces, high ceilings and many upgrades. Some units have a car port and others have an oversized 1 car detached garage with facilities for golf cart storage and battery charging. Many of these homes also have picturesque views of the golf course or of hills, mountains and city lights.
