The Beautiful Pacific Coast North San Diego County has 26 miles of beautiful coastline, 19 accessible beaches and an Oceanside Marina and Community Pier. They offer many activities including opportunities to go sailing, motor boating, fishing, ocean swimming, surfing, sunbathing, coastal hiking or beachside camping. If you prefer less strenuous activities, you might try dining at a beachside cafe, picnicking on the beach or just walking the beach and enjoying the fascinating sights and sounds of the beach activities- surfers, interesting people, fishermen, seabirds, dolphins, boats and beautiful sunsets. Or you may prefer to just sit and experience the awe-inspiring sights and sounds of waves hitting the shore. |

Adventures in Dining Out North San Diego County has more than 700 Restaurants that offer nearly every type of cuisine imaginable, most at reasonable prices. Some offer romantic sidewalk, beachside or ocean view settings. One favorite location that offers a variety of fine food at reasonable prices is the Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos. |

Shopping North San Diego county has two Large shopping malls and the 100 store "Carlsbad Premium Outlets" mall, plus hundreds of other specialty, gift and antique stores in large and small malls and shopping centers. Additionally there are 3 Costco and 3 Wal-Mart stores, 16 Hardware/Lumber Building Centers, a San Marcos Furniture Row and nearly every other type of retail store imaginable. For grocery shopping, there are 59 convenient supermarkets plus five Trader Joes and five Henry's Farmers Markets, one Sprouts and one Boney's (Gourmet and Farmer's Markets ), and more than 100 other specialty food markets. In Addition, there are many roadside farmer's fruit and vegetable stands and five of our cities have Certified Farmer's Markets on specific days of the week. |

Local opportunities include 22 live theaters including the excellent Escondido Performing Arts Center and the Lawrence Welk Resort Dinner Theater. Nearby San Diego has many additional live theaters, plus the San Diego Opera, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and the San Diego City Ballet Company. The many additional entertainment selections include 118 movie screens, animal shows at the wonderful San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park, the Legoland theme park, Street Fairs in Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Escondido and Fallbrook, Summer Concerts in various city parks, Del Mar's Hot-air Balloon Rides, the great Del Mar (San Diego county) Fair and the hundreds of other activities throughout the year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. |

Sports North San Diego County offers a choice of 30 Local Golf Courses (70 county-wide). It also offers a variety of fishing choices- Deep Sea, surf, lagoon, pier and fresh water (If you really love fishing, you can join the Oceanside Senior Anglers or the Escondido Senior Anglers- 760.723-3350. Many of our roads have bike lanes and the city of Carlsbad sponsors Marathons throughout the year and a yearly Carlsbad 5000 Meter race and a yearly Triathlon. Thoroughbred Racing & Casino Gambling The famous Del Mar races run every year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with Para-mutual betting all year long. Four Indian Gambling Casinos located near the town of Valley Center offer gambling, fine dining and excellent shows. |

Take Advantage of Life-Long Learning Opportunities- Unlike some other parts of the U.S., our community colleges welcome senior citizens. Free courses for Seniors and many other fee-based: Self-Improvement, Arts & Crafts, Fitness and Health and college-level Academic courses are offered at both Mira Costa and Palomar Community Colleges and at many of the Senior Centers. Carlsbad, home for high-end ski and golf equipment manufacturers is called
